Cash Payment in Oman – Withdrawing Money

Cash is widely used in Oman, but card payments are increasingly accepted in hotels, malls, and larger restaurants. However, in smaller shops, markets, and remote areas, cash is preferred.
ATMs & Withdrawals: ATMs are available in cities and towns, accepting major international cards (Visa, Mastercard). Some ATMs may charge withdrawal fees.
Currency & Exchange: The Omani Rial (OMR) is the local currency. Exchange offices and banks provide currency exchange, often with better rates than airports.
Cash vs. Card: While many places accept cards, always carry some cash, especially when traveling outside major cities.
Tipping & Small Purchases: Cash is useful for tipping, taxis, and small purchases, as some places may not accept cards. Plan ahead and withdraw cash as needed, especially for rural or market visits.
